Hazardous Situation at 7507 E Osborn Road

1 alarm hazardous situation involving carbon monoxide (CO) exposure at (Stars) Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services (Formerly Scottsdale Foundation for the Handicapped) at 7507 E Osborn Road in Scottsdale, Arizona. The call came into 911 at 11:37 a.m MST. 911 caller reported an odor and individuals complaining of headaches.

Scottsdale Police officials are reporting that approximately 100 clientele and staff were evacuated Tuesday afternoon from the Scottsdale rehab center building to Scottsdale Stadium for possible CO intake. 73 individuals were treated for high levels of carbon monoxide. Sixteen people were transported to Scottsdale Osborn.

Forty-six units responded to the 911 call, including four HazMat units and 12 ambulances. Involved crews from Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa and Phoenix. Approximately 150 firefighters were on scene. BC601 incident command.

[Update] Fire officials say an open pipe in an underground vault was the source of the carbon monoxide. Fire crews temporarily plugged the open pipe. The building is closed until the leak is fixed.

[Update 06/06/2012] STARS officials tell Scottsdale Arizona News that all 16 have been released from the hospital.
