[Update: Noon] SFD officials tell us in an email that Scottsdale And Phoenix Fire Department technical rescue crews responded to a report of a hiker experiencing dizziness. The hiker was approximately 5.5 miles from the Gateway Loop Trailhead (18333 N. Thompson Peak Rd). Phoenix Firebird 6 helicopter along with members from SFD and PFD located and made contact with the hiker. The hiker was assisted into the helicopter and flown off the mountain to a designated landing zone. The hiker was evaluated by crews and later signed a refusal for any further treatment and declined ground transportation to Scottsdale Healthcare Hospital.

Scottsdale Fire Department would like to remind residents and visitors that when hiking, regardless the temperature, bring lots of water, sunscreen, wear appropriate clothing, bring a cell phone, hike with a friend, and always let someone know where you are going and what time you are expected back.
