Paria Canyon Flash Flood - August 4, 2010

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff issued a small stream flood advisory early Wednesday morning at around 4 AM for north central Coconino County in North Central Arizona until 4 PM MST Wednesday.

The weather service says at around 4:01 AM MST USGS river gages indicated heavy flows on the Paria River in Utah due to heavy rainfall. The flood advisory warned of rapid rises of the Paria River in Arizona as it flows toward the Colorado River at Lees Ferry. This may impact boaters entering the Colorado River at Lees Ferry.

The peak flow of the Paria River at Lees Ferry, Arizona was about 2060 cfs at around 9:15 AM MST, according to USGS Real-Time Water Data.

The BLM Kanab Field Office in Kanab, Utah tells Scottsdale Arizona News that no hikers were in Buckskin Gulch and Paria Canyon early Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.
