Three Motorcycle Riders Clocked at 147 MPH on Loop 101

On December 27, 2009, at 12:21 a.m., an officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) observed three motorcycles traveling southbound at Chaparral and at McDonald and obtained a radar reading of 147 miles per hour along with a visual speed estimate. Two other DPS Officers in the area assisted to locate the three riders. Ultimately all three riders were stopped by DPS in the area, said Robert Lee Bailey, media relations officer for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

There was no pursuit, our officers were merely attempting to locate and apprehend the riders, said Bailey.

DPS did not release any more information about the incident.
