How do I cool my house down?‎

Today the high temperature in Phoenix was 112 degrees (F), according to the National Weather Service.

How do I cool my house down?‎

First off -- you need to find out the high and low temperature of your house. Buy a indoor weather instrument that will record the high/low temperature.

I have The Weather Clock by Oregon Scientific in my apartment. The clock has an alarm, memory, time, and shows the high/low temperature.

You are now the house meteorologist! You are going to control the "weather" (temperature) in your house!

Place the weather device/weather clock in your hot room. (bedroom, family room....) Find out the high and low temperature of your "hot room." This will take a day or so.

Adjust the a/c (thermostat). If hot room is 92 (F) and you want it to be 80 (F) you need to adjust the closest thermostat 12 degrees. Adjust the air conditioning temp up/down to your own room temperature measurements. Clear the temps on your weather instrument.

My bedroom was 85 (F) at sundown (+5 over the thermostat setting of 80 F). I adjusted the thermostat down to 75 (F). Within 24 hours I noticed the difference.

Day two your place should be nice and cool. Watch the temps of your pad. Check the temperature of your room. Adjust the thermostat up/down to your liking. Some rooms may now be really cool... Nothing you can do about that. You need to keep the AC at this new level so that the hot area of the house is cool.

Final thoughts:

1. Do not buy sunscreens. Sunscreens do not cool your house. Sunscreens do not work. Your neighbors with the sunscreens all around the house are sweating!! They will not tell you that!!! They waste thousand of dollars!
2. Do not install window treatments. Window treatments do not work. Window treatments will not cool your home. I have been told that your window warranty will be voided if you install window treatments. That nice neighbor with the window treatments has a hot house! She/he will not tell you that. Your neighbor wasted a bunch of money!
