Hot Springs Canyon

White Toyota 4x4 pickup truck with camping gear.
Photos taken by Peter Kosednar.

Pictures from a canyoneering trip to Hot Springs Canyon, Willcox, AZ. Year? -- um sorry Walmart has no date info on my photo cd.

This trip I drove my Toyota 4x4 pickup truck. Access to the trailhead is by a long dirt road.

My equipment included: a Vaude canyonering backpack, a Vaude tent and Leki hiking poles.

I saw a bunch of Coatimundi at the trailhead. The Coatimundis were climbing the trees!

The trail starts at the Nature Conservancy's Muleshoe Ranch Preserve.

Dry stream bed at Hot Springs Canyon, AZ.

The start of the Hot Springs Canyon trail follows a dry stream bed. You will be hiking in the Muleshoe Ranch Cooperative Management Area for the first mile or so. You pass Bass Canyon in a mile and a half. Look for the permanent stream entering the canyon.

Trees and a nice flowing steam in Hot Springs Canyon.

Water! The rest of the canyon trips is water!! The best route to take is to hike in the stream.

Campsite at Hot Springs Canyon, AZ.

My campsite in Hot Springs Canyon. I found a nice sandbar.

It was one wild night. I heard wild animal noises. A local Willcox rancher told me that the animal probably was a jaguar or mountain lion.

You can find out more info on this canyon by reading Canyoneering Arizona by Tyler Williams. The book is available at Amazon.com for around $20.00.
