Double Shooting - 11320 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale, AZ 85259 - Cholla Park

Double shooting reported at Cholla Park at 11320 East Via Linda in Scottsdale, Arizona.

[Update: 2:29 PM MST] The Scottsdale Police Department are currently investigating a shooting in the area of Cholla Park, 11320 E Via Linda Drive. We are in the initial stages of this investigation but at this time it is believed that all parties involved are accounted for and there are no outstanding subjects. There is no danger to the surrounding community. There are lane restrictions on Via Linda at Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd for the ongoing investigation. PIO is in route to the scene- Media staging in the Safeway Parking lot at Frank Lloyd Wright and Via Linda, according to Officer Kevin Watts #609, Public Information Office with the Scottsdale Police Department.

[Update: 8:33 PM MST] We can now update that there were two subjects involved in this afternoon’s shooting at Cholla Park, 11320 E Via Linda. Subject one, is an adult male and was previously reported as the subject transported to an area hospital. He was subsequently pronounced deceased at the hospital. Subject two, is an adult female and as reported earlier was deceased at the scene. The investigation has revealed that the two were known to each other and all indications are that this was a murder suicide, with the male shooting the female and then turning the gun on himself. There were no additional involved parties or outstanding subjects. Their names are not being released at this time and the details around the incident itself are still under investigation. As information becomes available we will provide additional updates, according to Officer Kevin Watts #609, Public Information Office with the Scottsdale Police Department.

[Update: April 29, 2020] The victim and suspect in yesterday’s Murder/Suicide at Cholla Park have been identified as 50-year-old Tammy Welch and 59- year- old Lawrence Labine respectively.

On Tuesday April 28, 2020 at approximately 1:50 pm Scottsdale Police Department Patrol officers responded to the area of 11320 E Via Linda Drive, Cholla Park, reference sounds of shots or possible shooting. On arrival officers discovered two subjects down with obvious gun shot wounds. The first subject, later identified as Tammy Welch, was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of her injuries. The second subject, later identified as Lawrence Labine, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Investigation thus far has revealed that Labine and Welch are ex husband and wife. It is believed that Labine, armed with two handguns, shot Welch as she sat in her vehicle and then turned one of the guns in himself. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to share at this time, according to Officer Kevin Watts #609, Public Information Office with the Scottsdale Police Department.
