This morning at approximately 5:45 AM MST, Scottsdale Patrol Officers responded to a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian collision in the alley just south of 8400 Heatherbrae Dr. Investigation determined that Mr. Tombo, a transient, was dressed in dark clothing and sleeping under some refuse in the alley. A City of Scottsdale garbage truck was driving through the alley as part of its normal trash collection route when it struck Mr. Tombo. He was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result injuries sustained in the collision. The incident is still under investigation and no further details are available at this time, according to Scottsdale police officer Kevin Watts.
[Update] The subject in today’s fatal traffic collision involving a City of Scottsdale vehicle has been identified as 34 year old Freddy Tombo.
