Hurricane Force Gusts Possible Near Tucson Mountains, Weather Service Says

A high wind watch is in effect from Thursday morning through Friday morning for northern Greenlee County, southeast Pinal County, upper Gila River valley, western Pima County, Tohono Oodham Nation, Tucson metro, Marana, Green Valley, Santa Cruz County and Cochise County.

Strong and potentially damaging winds will start as early as Thursday morning and continue into Friday morning, according to the weather service.

The National Weather Service in Tucson says winds will increase rapidly Thursday morning becoming sustained at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Hurricane force wind gusts from 70 to 80 mph will be possible near the mountains.
